According to D'Alton (1838, 697), 'It appears from a document of 1496, that a cross was then standing in Crumlin'. Joyce (1912, 195) mentions the existence of a cross which stood in Crumlin Village in the 15th-century. Ball suggest that it may have stood at the junction of Dolphin's Barn and the Drimnagh Road. Not precisely located.

The high cross in Crumlin is recorded as standing in the 15th century, though its builder is not identified. Its wider significance is not recorded.
