What is recorded here

Cross is a missing medieval churchyard cross from Magheross parish church, County Monaghan, Ireland. It had an expanded head with chamfered edges, running animals, a partial inscription and what appears to be a harp on the reverse. Shirley described and illustrated it in 1879, but Davies recorded in 1942 that it was no longer present in the graveyard.

A headstone that is probably a re-used medieval churchyard cross (Davies ITA Survey 1942) is no longer present in the graveyard of Magheross parish church (MO031-035001-), but it has been described and illustrated by (Shirley 1879, 367). It has an expanded head which has chamfered edges and is decorated with running animals. The head also has the partial inscription: THIS AND / CROS THA / T IEVERM.
