Crannog is an artificial island in County Mayo, Ireland, built by stacking stones and earth above water to create dry land for living. The exact site and date remain unrecorded, but the purpose is clear: keep rain, tide and danger outside a small home. Someone carried material across open water, judged the depth, and shaped a place where an ordinary household could continue.
