What is recorded here
Crannog is a man-made island in Carrickmannan, County Down, built by people who refused to leave the water behind. They raised land from the lake, perhaps with reeds, soil and broken wood, then lived above the danger instead of fleeing it. The official record preserves the name and point but not the hands that built it. That absence is not a flaw. It is an invitation to imagine the family who first walked onto their own making and called it home.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
