Crannog in Ballylough, County Antrim: an artificial island dwelling from the early Christian period, still scheduled and marked at its centre. Imagine people driving stakes into shallow water, stacking soil and stone until a small landmass rose above the waves. They may have lived there through storms, raised children, and vanished without writing a line. The island remains, waiting for someone to remember how clever and temporary human life can be.
