Craigton, Dounreay

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Craigton, Dounreay as Chapel (medieval), Well (period Unknown). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to an unidentified saint, the well at Craigton, Dounreay was traditionally associated with healing and may have been visited for water cures. Little specific folklore survives, but such wells in northern Scotland often had connections to early Christian practices and local protective spirits.
