Cragnaganaha Fort is a substantial stone ringfort in County Clare, Ireland, enclosing a level dish-shaped area twenty metres across. Its thick wall still stands despite a collapsed breach at the north-west, while a later animal holding structure leans against the south-west edge. The site has likely served as a boundary, shelter or marker for nearby life, with trees and pasture now sharing the space once shaped by human hands.
On a generally level area, in improved pasture with rock outcrop close to the surface. Depicted on OS historic mapping as a circular enclosure named Cragnaganaha Fort. A roughly circular area (23m N-S; 20.5m E-W) defined by a substantial stone wall (int. H 0.95m; ext. H 0.95m; Wth at top 4.75m; overall Wth 10.35m). The gable of a stone outbuilding is incorporated into the exterior of the enclosing elements at NE. A narrow, collapsed breach (Wth 2.0m) is located in the stone wall at NNW and may represent an entrance. There is no evidence of an outer fosse. The interior is a deep dish-shape in profile and is generally level across the base, were it is featureless. A well-preserved portion of later wall (int. H 1.0m; T 2.2m; L c. 5m) is built along the top of the enclosing elements at SW. This may be a later feature when the monument is likely to have been used as an animal holding area associated with the 19th-century settlement abutting to NE. A number of trees are growing around the top of the enclosing elements and intermittently within the interior.
