Craggaunowen Castle was built by the O'Donnell family in the 16th century and is remembered as a significant example of a defensive tower house in west Clare. It reflects the regional Gaelic architectural tradition and the historical presence of the O'Donnells in the area.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
