Cracanais is a sea cliff or coastal rock feature composed primarily of Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rocks in the British Isles, dating back to the Precambrian era, around 2.7 to 3 billion years ago. These highly metamorphosed rocks formed deep within the Earth's crust through intense heat and pressure, and were later exposed by erosion, making the area notable for its ancient geological history.
