Aghoo holds a court tomb, one of the chambered graves built across western Europe before written memory. In County Mayo its stones still mark the edge of a field where people once buried their dead and shaped the land around the grave. The survey named it, but life continued elsewhere: farming, birth, death, and the long human habit of returning to places already marked.

Court tomb, dating to the Neolithic period (c. 3500–2500 BCE). These tombs are significant as early examples of communal burial and ritual practice in Ireland.
