What is recorded here
Island Hill in County Down holds a counterscarp rath, a defensive earthwork where ancient people shaped the land against danger. The official record preserves the name and location, but it does not explain whose hands dug the ditch or whose children ran clear of it. That much has gone quiet. What remains is a hill marked by human urgency, waiting to be read in soil and shadow rather than argument.
