What is recorded here
Mortars flew across the counterfort wall at Braetown, striking the far side where men stood guard. The counterscarp rath rose in answer, a defensive ring built to catch what the first wall could not. Stone and fury collided there, shaping the town's edge long before anyone wrote the event down.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
