Freestanding sandstone cross, dated 1877, with ringed cross and rectangular-plan shaft, having moulded edges to front and rear faces (south-east and north-west), and truncated pyramidal base having inscription to front, and cap being gabled oratory-like detail.

This well-designed monument was erected to commemorate James Hamilton of Cornecassa House, listed in Thom's Directory of 1862 as being one of a magistrate in County Monaghan. Executed in the style of a Celtic Cross and referencing Irish medieval religious decorative motifs in the use of the gabled oratory detail to the cap, it is sited at the place of his death and thus has historic interest. It is a focal point in the landscape and forms part of a related group with the adjacent remains of Cornecassa House.
