Corn Mill

On Bridewell river just W of Oldchapel. Small Oat Mill built 1839 by Jeremiah Crowley, abandoned 1970s for large modern milling complex to E. Three-bay, 3-storey gable ended with brick dressed windows. Undershot iron waterwheel (Wth 1.71m) in wheel pit on W elev; corroded iron buckets;replaced for wooden wheel in 1914. Much of mill gearing and roller stones removed 1952; old pulley lines and elevators survive. Two-storey grain store at right angles (W end) to S which, according to owner was a grain drying kiln. Two-storey millers house extends from mill to E. Long line of 2-storey offices and store houses extends to S (E end).
