Cormacs Well

On the lakeshore, 450m S of the Augustinian abbey (GA069-001013-). Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1934) but mentioned previously by Fahey (1904, 135). Not located: however, an old estate well has collapsed in the area and its rubble may obscure it. Linked to St. Cormac, a 7th-century king and bishop of Cashel, the well is traditionally associated with healing and protection. Local tradition holds that the saint founded the nearby monastery, and holy wells dedicated to him were often believed to have curative properties, particularly for skin ailments and livestock diseases.
