Coolfadda Fort

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

On a SE-facing slope in grassland. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 34.5m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 4.5m-6m; int. H 0.4m-0.95m; ext. H 1.45m-1.7m) survives from NNE through E to SSW. The fosse (Wth 3m) and outer bank (Wth 2.9m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.35m) survive from NE to E. The W portion of the monument is obscured by a number of field banks. Lazy beds, running WNW-ESE, are visible within the interior. A small roughly rectangular area (L 4.8m; Wth 2.5m) defined by a stony bank in the N half may be the last vestiges of a house site.
