Cobbles in Glebe, Rathduff (Madden), has local limestone cut into tidy kerbs since about 1825. The stone must have thought it was getting a castle job when the chisels came out. ‘Lovely work, lads. Which way’s the throne room?’ ‘Lie down beside the road.’

Exhibiting a construction in locally-sourced natural materials a section of kerbing forms an integral component of the street furniture of Kells. The kerbing represents an appealing, if often-overlooked feature enhancing the aesthetic value of the street scene.
