The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (diam. c.43m) enclosed by substantial bank (int. H c. 2m, ext. H c. 3m) and external fosse (base Wth c. 8m). Best preserved at W. Gaps at E and S but original entrance not identifiable.

Clorusk Moat, Clorusk Upper is a ringfort, likely dating to the early medieval period, typically between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Local folklore, common to many such sites in Ireland, associates it with fairy activity, and it may have been regarded as a sacred or otherworldly place in traditional belief.
