Clochan

What is recorded here

Part of Baile na mBocht (GA110-162----). The southernmost of a group of four monuments described by Kinahan (1869d, 27, no. 19) as the 'Ruins of two Fosleac and two Ointigh', for details of the others see GA110-122002--GA110-122004-. What survives today is a very poorly preserved structure consisting of an oval chamber (NNE-SSW 4.8m) adjoined on W by a smaller subcircular structure (E-W 3.9m, N-S 3m). Possibly the remains of a conjoined clochan. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
