Cist in Ballyogan

Cist

What is recorded here

This is one of two adjacent cist graves found in Ballyogan townland (Waddell 1970, 128-129). This cist (1970, 129) is described as 'Polygonal cist found about 1m away from the short cist (SL017-053001-); described as roughly circular and 'only about one foot in diameter'; contained cremated bone.' Not precisely located. Waddell, J. (1970) JRSAI vol 100, p. 91-139 Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011
Polygonal cist, likely dating to the Early Christian or medieval period. Its association with another cist in the same townland suggests a small burial cluster, possibly reflecting local funerary practices in a rural or ecclesiastical context.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
