Cist in Ballykale

A cist (WX011-024----) was discovered in removing a mound of stone and clay at Ballykale on the E side of Ballyminaun Hill c. 1878 (Kinahan 1881-2, 774; Ó Bróin 1925, 107-09). It contained an urn which was broken and is now lost. When a second cist was discovered nearby more care was taken and a vase Food Vessel was recovered. The location of the discovery is not known now. (Waddell 1970, 136) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
