Cist Burial (Site of) in County Kildare, Ireland. In 1930, a cist containing a cremation-burial and two large vase food vessels fell out of a sand-extraction pit face, revealing what deliberate hands had hidden decades or centuries before. Years earlier, another burial of unknown character had already surfaced nearby, suggesting the ground was not empty but crowded with forgotten ceremonies. The sand took the shape of the cist, yet the vessels remained, carrying the last warmth of the dead into the indifferent hunger of the earth.

A cremation-burial accompanied by two large vase food vessels (or possibly vase urns) was found in a cist which fell out of a pit face during sand extraction in 1930.
