Mairi’s fingers found the cist chamber through rotten soil, but the chamber had no dead body inside. The chamber held a copper disc, a wooden spoon, and a child’s shoe. The dish and spoon belonged to the person who buried the chamber, not the person the chamber buried. Mairi closed the chamber with new soil and left the child’s shoe behind.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CIST BURIAL. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC; BRONZE AGE. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

Cist burial; dates to the Bronze Age. These small stone coffins were commonly used for elite or significant individuals, reflecting early funerary practices in the region.
