Ciarán of Saigir was born in Cléire, County Cork, during the fifth century and became the first bishop of Saighir. He is remembered as the first saint born in Ireland and remains the patron of Ossory. His life bridges the old druidic dreams of his mother and the new Christian faith he carried into the world.
