Church

What is recorded here

No visible trace of the church remains, but the lost building once stood at the centre of a circular enclosure in County Carlow. The enclosing bank and church site have been bulldozed, erasing the shape that could still be read on the 1908 map. What is left is a hollow in the land, a place where memory has been cut back rather than recorded.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 No visible trace of church. Enclosing bank and church site bulldozed. Shown on 1908 'OS 6-inch' map at centre of circular enclosure (CW019-034002).

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
