Church in Unknown Townland

City hall occupies the site of the Medieval Parish church of St. Mary del Dame's. The earliest reference of the church is in a deed of c. 1179 (Gilbert 1854-9, II, 1). It was assigned to St Patricks Cathedral in 1219-20 (McNeill 1950, 42). Richard Boyle , Earl of Cork built a mansion on the site in the 16th century later known as Cork House (Gilbert 1854-9, II, 3). This was subsequently replaced by the Royal Exchange, now City Hall (Bradley and King 1987, 2, 117; FMD map (1978, F9).
