Church (in ruins)

Situated on a rise in a level landscape. A chapel at Salestown in the large parish of Dunboyne does not occur in the ecclesiastical lists, but a decayed chapel at Salestown is listed in the Civil Survey (1654-6) Simington (1940, 125). it is amongst nine chapels in Dunboyne parish recorded by Cogan (1862-70, 1, 191), who says that the walls were torn down. FitzGerald (1917-18) says that only the foundations of the chancel were visible. This is a rectangular graveyard (dims c. 35m NE-SW; 30 NW-SE) defined by masonry walls, and the remains of the church are evident as a grass-covered cairn (dims 7-8m x c. 4.5m; H 0.5m).
