Church in New Ross

St Michael’s church is regarded by Hore as the original parish church of New Ross but this is unlikely as the earliest reference to St Michael's chapel is in 1370 when the advowson, or the right of appointing clergy, was granted to the Abbey of Dunbrody (WX039-030001-). It was served by Jesuits c. 1625-70. The site is uncertain but it is believed to be on Michael St., and became the site of a cavalry barracks in the 18th century. The barracks is commemorated in Barrack Lane, and the site is now occupied by St Joseph's National School.
