What is recorded here

In a children's burial ground (KE058-084----). This possible church is not visible at ground level. In a description of the route of the 'rounds' at Kilclogherane, it was recorded in the 1940s that the pilgrims 'proceed clockwise round what is probably the remains of an ancient church of fairly large dimensions' (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club). There is also a 'tradition that a colony of saints and monks lived here and were afterwards transferred to Muckross' (CKFC). This possible church was also recorded in the 1940s as an 'old ruin' with a burial ground surrounding it (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). However, Cooke (1906, 11), stated that 'there is no trace of any building or ruin of any old church here or in the immediate vicinity'.
