Church in Farranmanagh

In pasture, on a hillock, overlooking the Aghgarriv stream and valley of the Laune River. This possible church is not visible at ground level. The present landowner recalls seeing the foundations of a stone church '30ft [9.14m] E-W; 15ft [4.57m] N-S' and says that there was a tradition of monks living there. In the 1940s 'some digging' was described as having taken place here during a visit and had exposed the foundations of a number of rectangular buildings, 'some found in pairs and others detached' (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club). These may be associated with the church. According to local information, the stone from here was reused for other buildings and for fill.
