Church in Clondulane South

In Clondulane graveyard (vol. 4, no. 14565), imediately S of the overgrown ruin of the former C of I parish church of Clondulane (vol. 4, no. 14712). The possible remains of an earlier church (c. 24m E-W; min. 5.2m N-S) comprise the E wall and the E end of the S wall incorporated into a square burial plot (5.2m N-S; 5.15m E-W); the S and E sides of the burial plot are thicker (T 1.2m and 0.93m, respectively) than the N and W sides. The possible remains of the footings of the W gable is covered by overgrowth. The S wall of the C of I church is likely to have been built on the foundations of the earlier church. According to Brady (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 127), this earlier church was 'in repair' in 1615. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
