What is recorded here

The National Monuments Record of Wales records Chirk Castle as Castle from the Post Medieval; Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Chirk Castle was built in the late 13th century by the influential Clwyd family, later held by the Mytton family and then the Earls of Powis. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval Welsh border castle and for its historical association with key noble families in the region.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
