What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Ground occupies an oval pasture in County Cork, Ireland. Its shallow earth and stone bank enclose grave markers and sunken areas, suggesting generations of small burials beneath grass now trod by livestock. The contrast between domesticated pasture and repeated childhood death gives the place its quiet strangeness.
In pasture. Oval area (32.5m N-S; 24m E-W) enclosed by earth and stone bank (H 0.55m). Many grave markers and sunken areas noted.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
