What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Ground marks a narrow strip on the north-west bank of an enclosure in County Galway where uninscribed grave-markers still stand close together. Local memory claims the place remained active until half a century ago, suggesting families continued to bury their youngest there long after formal churches faded from daily use. The cramped spacing and worn stones create a stark image of repeated loss, forcing a visitor to imagine the small bodies and grieving hands behind each marker.
On NW section of the bank of enclosure (GA031-041----). A poorly preserved area (L 28m) within which uninscribed grave-markers are set between 1.3m and 0.7m apart, both on top of bank and on its inner face. In use up to 50 years ago, according to local information. (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 229)
