What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Gd. is a children's burial ground just north of the ringfort centre at GA029-120---- in County Galway, Ireland. The place is remembered through small field stones in a rough square about 13m across, with little else left visible. It may have been a quiet edge of a living settlement, where the smallest deaths were kept apart and the ground was marked only enough for people who already knew the site.
Within a ringfort (GA029-120----). Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1926-7) just N of the centre of the interior of the ringfort. Here, several small field stones, occupying a roughly square area (L/Wth c. 13m), protrude above the ground surface; otherwise no visible surface trace survives.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
