What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Gd in County Cork, Ireland, is a rectangular pasture on the west side of River Laney where unbaptized children lay until the 1950s. The earth still holds that forbidden tenderness, marked only by loose stones and overgrowth rather than cross or name. To walk its edge is to measure how much love local rule could not touch.
Not shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map. In pasture, on W side of River Laney. Rectangular area (c. 45m N-S; c. 20m E-W) defined to S by field fence; remaining three sides defined by overgrowth. Interior heavily overgrown and scattered with loose stones. No grave markers noted. Locally known as burial ground for unbaptized children and used as such until 1950s.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
