Children's burial ground in Pollacorragune

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children's burial ground in Pollacorragune lies within a Galway ringfort, marked by fallen limestone boulders and one neat NE-SW line. The stones may have guided parents through grief, giving small lives a shape they could visit. Grass has since swallowed most markers, yet the alignment still points across the field like a promise kept.
Within the interior of ringfort (GA029-144----). Unenclosed irregular area within which numerous small limestone boulders indicate graves, many have fallen and are overgrown. One NE-SW alignment is visible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
