Children's burial ground in Lettermore (kilannin Par.)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Lettermore’s children’s burial ground holds a slight unenclosed mound on a small headland west of Droichead Charraig an Lugáin. Small set stones remain visible across its surface, marking little bodies returned to the seaward earth instead of a crowded churchyard. The Atlantic still touches that place, carrying childhood into its endless churn.
On a small headland on seashore to W of Droichead Charraig an Lugáin. A slight unenclosed mound on which small set stones are visible (info. T. Robinson). Not visited. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
