What is recorded here

Killelton is a small walled graveyard where children still lay to rest during the nineteenth century, tucked beneath Gearhane mountain and facing Tralee Bay. Two low stones remain in its north-west corner, perhaps marking little lives cut short before the village could name them. The drystone wall barely rises now, yet it still holds the shape of a place where grief was ordinary and the sea watched every burial.

National Monument No. 593. Killelton Church and graveyard/Cill Eilthín: Situated on the lower N slopes of Gearhane mountain, overlooking Tralee Bay, this site consists of a rectangular enclosure, within which are the remains of a small oratory and 2 rectangular buildings. Children were still being interred in the graveyard (KE037-025004-) in the 19th century (OSNB Kilgobban, 30) and 2 low upright stones in the NW part of the interior may be gravemarkers. The enclosure measures c. 25m E-W x 24m N-S and the drystone walls are no more than .8m in height. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
