Children's burial ground in Kilcreevanty

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Kilcreevanty holds a children's burial ground inside a ringfort, though no grave marker or ditch remains visible. Local tradition says the enclosed earth received young bodies, turning a defensive structure into a quiet chamber for the smallest lives. The absence of proof does not erase the shape of the claim; it removes the chance to point at a hole and argue. Memory may have done what surveying cannot, preserving a function the soil forgot.
Within a ringfort (GA029-099----). According to local traditions, the interior of the monument was used as a CBG. No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
