Children's burial ground in Kilcloony (dunmore By.)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Kilcloony in Dunmore By. holds a children's burial ground inside an old ringfort. Two unmarked graves remain, outlined only by flat stones and a few irregular rocks on the north-east bank. The site preserves a brutal truth about childhood loss long before written records, forcing visitors to imagine the small bodies and grieving families who placed those stones in dark earth.
Within a ringfort (GA016-059----). According to local information, this is the site of a CBG. All that survives is the rough outline of two unmarked graves defined by flat stones, and a few irregular stones on the bank at NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
