Children's burial ground in Clare

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children died young and were buried inside the Clare ringfort until recently, according to local tradition. The earth swallowed every marker and body until nothing visible remained. Forgetting completed what burial began: a clean field where small lives disappeared without witness.
Within a ringfort (GA054-014----). According to local tradition the interior was used as a CBG 'until recently'. No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
