Children's burial ground in Ardlagheen More OR Highlake

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Ardlagheen More holds a children's burial ground on a gentle NW-facing slope where uncremated bone emerged from the earth. Local tradition treated the place as a sacred resting spot for the young, giving it a tenderness rare among ancient Irish remains. The discovery confirmed what memory already suspected: even forgotten fields preserve love, loss and the small bodies of those who never grew old.
On a gentle NW-facing slope. Rath (RO035-003001-) was regarded locally as a children's burial ground, and uncremated bone (RO035-003002-) was recovered from it (Gannon 1972). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
