Children's burial ground in An Cheathrú Mhór

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

An Cheathrú Mhór holds a children's burial ground, though no visible marker remains to confirm the shape of that loss. The land may have swallowed infant bodies during famine, fever or war, leaving parents without even a grave to weep beside. What is certain is the category itself: children, death, and a field in County Mayo that stopped belonging only to the living.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
