Children's burial ground in Adderville

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Adderville holds a children's burial ground marked by a curving stone wall that mirrors an old single-ringed enclosure. The boundary still shapes the ground, suggesting the site has been recognised and protected for generations. What is certain is the form of the place: a separate burial area set apart in County Donegal.
A modern curving stone wall seems to reflect the single-ringed enclosure (DG010-033001-) shown on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map. A children's burial ground is reported to be in the vicinity and probably at this site (M.R. Calhoun). The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
