Children's Burial Ground

Children's burial ground, Ballinaboy, Co. Roscommon: a cillín on a south-facing slope where unbaptised infants were buried outside church sanction. Around 1912 bones surfaced near a former church, confirming what local memory already held: this was ground set apart for the youngest dead. The church nearby suggests the area once anchored parish life, even if canon law kept these children at its edge.
