The Chesterfield Canal, completed in 1777, was a key transport route connecting Chesterfield to the Erewash Canal near Long Eaton, facilitating the movement of coal and other goods during the Industrial Revolution. It was engineered by James Brindley and is historically significant as one of the early canals in the Derbyshire canal network.
