This blue commemorative plaque records: Chevalier Blondin 1824-1897 Over 100,000 people saw Blondin, 'The Hero of Niagara', perform his death-defying high wire act here, in Eastham Gardens, during May/June 1883. Recorded plaque organisation: Eastham Archives.
Charles Blondin was a renowned tightrope walker who gained fame for crossing Niagara Falls on a tightrope multiple times; his performance in Eastham Gardens attracted massive crowds and solidified his reputation as 'The Hero of Niagara'.
