Charcoal-making site in Maulagowna

In undulating pasture, at the foot of an E-facing slope of Knocknagorraveela. A charcoal spread (c. 7m x 7m) was exposed and disturbed during the course of land reclamation. According to local information, the woodland in this valley was cut down and converted to charcoal in the late 17th-/early 18th-century to fuel Sir William Petty's Ironworks near Kenmare.
