Charcoal-making site in Cummeengeera

In pasture, on the N-facing lower slopes of Lackabane Mountain. A sub-square, level area (8.5m N-S; 8m E-W) defined by a scarp which is cut (D 0.9m) into the upslope at S and by a scarp which is built up (H 0.5m) externally at N. The scarp at N decreases in height towards the E and W sides. Lumps of charcoal are visible along the N edge and on the N scarp. Charcoal was produced here in the early 18th-century to supply the iron smelter (KE108-076----) in Lauragh Upper.
